About Date Difference Calculator

Counting the days between two dates sounds easy but trips people up constantly: do you include both endpoints, does February count as one month, and how many weeks is 'a month and a half'? A date difference calculator settles these questions with calendar-accurate arithmetic.

The tool counts whole calendar months plus the remaining days rather than approximating months as 30 or 31 days, which is why a span like January 1 to March 1 shows as 2 months and 1 day even though the total is around 60 days. Leap years are included naturally, and day counts exclude the start date by default, matching how most event and deadline counters behave.

Project managers estimate deadlines and task durations, event planners count down to weddings and trips, and HR or legal staff measure notice periods and contract lengths. Students and researchers also use it to align academic terms or work out how much time remains before a fixed date.

How to Use

  1. Enter the start date and end date.
  2. Read the total difference instantly.
  3. See the breakdown in days, weeks, months, and years.

Example

January 1 to December 31, 2026 364 days · 52 weeks · 11 months · 0 years

The difference is computed calendar-accurately, including the exact number of days between the two dates.

FAQ

Is the start date inclusive?

By default the count is exclusive of the start date, matching how most event-counting tools behave.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes, February 29 is included when it falls between the dates.

Why does the month count look small?

Months vary in length, so the tool reports whole calendar months plus remaining days rather than rounding.

Why do two spans with the same day count show different months?

Months have different lengths, so the tool reports whole calendar months plus leftover days. From January 15 to March 15 is 2 months, while from February 15 to April 15 is also 2 months but covers more actual days.

How is a leap day counted in the total?

Any February 29 that falls between the two dates counts as an actual day in the total. Because the arithmetic is calendar-aware, leap years never cause the total day count to be off.
